Guardian Unlimited Special reports Long odds for massive meteor impact
It was announced that an asteroid around two-thirds of a mile wide (1.2km) could hit Earth on March 21 2014 - classified by astronomers as "an event meriting careful monitoring".

However, the chances of the asteroid hitting the Earth are just 1 in 909,000 and the estimated risk of impact is likely to decrease as more information is collected.

Although only one-tenth of the size of the meteor thought to have wiped out the dinosaurs 65m years ago, the newly discovered asteroid, known as 2003 QQ47, has a mass of around 2,600m tonnes and is travelling at a speed of 20 miles a second.

In other news, i nominate APC Back-UPS ES for worst computer product ever created. You are encouraged to purchase one if you want to ensure that your power goes out periodically for no reason followed by a loud annoying beeping that won't go off for approximately 9 1/2 years (tho i can tell you where to poke it to make it stop doing that), all while failing to protect against actual power outages. Act now and you will also be missing the special ethernet-to-USB cable that supposedly connects the device to your computer. Yes, i purchased four of these, and didn't keep the boxes and warranties.

I plan on tossing the shell of the one that just ate my work, once i find a place to recycle the battery.
