The Tragedy of the Kitty and the Keyboard

The kitty, he wants to sit close. He stretches out. He settles. He slowly seeps horizontally, until he reaches maximum comfort and relaxation. That's when a foot or butt or back starts repeating a keyboard key, and I have to move him, and he doesn't know why and sits up all uptight, afraid to settle down at the spot I'm indicating.

Other times, such as now, he sleeps on the arm, which pulses under him as I type. This does not provide maximum relaxation.

Am to put a shelf over both monitors, and afix it firmly, and perhaps this will finally be a fine place for him to reign undisturbed.

Some people claim to have gaydar. I sometimes think I have depressiondar.

My stereo was stolen during move somehow. Now I eBay me up some computer speakers and add a sound card so that I may have audio pulses directed at my cranium. Still have tapes I needed to convert to .wav, and no longer have tape player, so waah.

Ah, you've noticed that, have you? I think I have it, too. As well as a few other types of 'dar.

Sorry about your stereo.

Your story reminded me of my cats. They both liked to be near me, but one in particular pretty much always had to be on me. Fortunately she was fairly accepting of being relocated. The desk was the one place it got tricky. For whatever reason (as you just mentioned) the positions that made her comfortable tended not to allow me to type. But when sleeping I could roll over & just take her with me & she would barely stir, just settle right back into my arms.

I miss that. Sometimes I miss my kitties very much. It has faded much with time, but I suspect tonight will be one of those nights.

If I weren't so set on wanting to travel to other countries in the next 5 years, I'd get another cat in heartbeat. But it would not be fair to the sort of cat I want to have her be mine & then abandon her for months or years. ::sigh:: Which is why I'm looking at getting a rat, but while rats can be decent company, they really aren't the same for cuddling. Among other things, they don't purr, nor is there that warm weight.

Perhaps you could offer your kitty a stool next to you, so he would be in easy petting range?

basket (webcam optional)

my solution to the cat/keyboard problem was a wicker basket and some safety wire. The wire attaches the basket to the venting grate on the top of the monintor. That way we don't have any more, uh, accidents. It's a pretty big monitor, not sure if this would work for you. I think I found the basket at Peir 1. The towels beneath the basket help make it more level, as the top of the montior isn't flat. For a while I had webcam above the basket, and I could spy on the kids 24/7. When they were itty bitty it was easier to share, now there's usually a bit of grumbling when the second cat gets in. They manage, though. In fact, they're both in there as I type this. Silly cats.
