Haig: I think, as one looks at the new world, this world of the -- that's witnessing the explosion of information sciences, that more communication is inevitable--has always been desirable. It means that propaganda will probably have a less significant role. Historically, propaganda could stir up good and evil. Perhaps fascists who dream of having a pure bloodline are big deluded dupes who long for the alleged magical power of an unpleasant matriarchal blood-drinking moon-worshipping neanderthal culture which died 10,000 years ago, and lives on only in memetic echoes, and possibly in faint genetic traces from crossbreeding. Maybe they should have the sloped forehead with thick brows as their emblem, circled with latin for "Down with the cerebrum! Up with the cerebellum!"

Various unpleasant patriarchal sun-worshipping cro-magnon units replace the past but at the same time incorporate it, and cry "Down with the cerebellum! Up with the cerebrum!". Moon-worship relics fold into the new paradigm, and the polar opposites cause much confusion and recursive schism, with lots of people knowing the true ancient secret truth that's in fact completely distorted and misunderstood by all who claim to understand.

The next step in complexity would seem to be to achieve consciousness of the above, and integrate the two rather than polarize toward one or the other. That integration could combine the negative aspects of both, giving the equivalent of the unfortunate hybrid 'killer bees', manifesting as fascism, genocide, and destruction. Or it could combine the positive aspects of both, equality and creation. The former is the easier path, because everyone is sure that they're secretly the special people that's better than the rest of the savages, but is the path of entropy and therefore ultimately more aligned with deevolution than evolution.

The idea that genes can be 'pure' is one of the most illogical ideas ever espoused by pseudoscientists. The whole nature of genes is controlled diversity, and all the humans of the world have common ancestors. There's only a few percent difference between humans and chimps. You might as well decide humans are the pure genes, and go on a genocidal rampage killing all other evolutionary siblings, then realize at the end that you are made of protobacterial evolutionary siblings and you can only get your pure genes by destroying the entire planet and yourself, which is somewhat contrary to having megalomaniacal power and infinite life.

Tolkien is in some ways a supreme fascist, with the saving grace being the recognition that there could be good in Gollum. The idea that there are dark and evil races which it's ok to kill is an echo of the genocide of the neanderthal. A successful post-Tolkien epic would have to integrate opposites better rather than set up strong intrinsic polarities - step back from the yin and yang to see the tao. People need to realize that anti-entropic evolving information patterns is life, with the common definition of genes and memes being subsets, and as such everyone is part of more than one 'organism', and is composed of more than one organism. Islands are all connected under the ocean.
