It appears that [aunt] has cancer and that it is inoperable.  There is some hope that radiation/chemo can eradicate it.  It is deep in her lung where it is inaccessible.  Her whole lung would need to be removed and then her quality of life would be extremely poor if not fatal given the condition of her lungs.
