i awoke listening to those glorious meatwhistles, the birds. i think it might be dangerous to start recognizing different ones... instead of pretty noises, suddenly its "hm i wonder if that's some sort of thrush... sounds almost like a swainson's thrush but doesn't go as high".

risky business: maybe when spam arrives urging me to buy stock XYZ, should short it.

danger, danger! (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0395975255/ref=lpr_g_4/103-4227099-9142222?v=glance&s=books)

Personally, I think it's fun to be able to identify birds by ear. I remember the wonder I felt when I learned the song of the Anna's hummingbird (often the only way one knows they are near). I wish I knew more!
