I never buy movies, in part because I almost never watch a movie more than once.

The other day, I looked around at the hundreds of books I've bought, and realized I almost never read a book more than once.

I can still fall back on the waiting-for-HDTV-DVD claim to explain the difference. That and the fact that I rarely find a movie that interests me enough to bring it home from the video store, while that problem doesn't happen with books.

i honestly can't imagine almost never reading a book twice. most everything i own i've read at least three times - some i've had to replace from so many readings.

I think whether or not you read a book more than once has much to do with whether you tend to read fiction or non-fiction.

As to the book-buying quandry, I no longer buy books unless I know they will get read more than once, or that I will in some way use them as a reference.

Libraries are wonderful, wonderful things.

How did you get to be so cool?

Did you just add me? Usually I would not notice immediately, but I'm bored at work.

Why read a book more than once when there are so many good books to get around to? Owning books, however, is so much more appealing than owning movies. I used to want to have my own library someday. You know how kids fantasize about getting rich? Well, that was sincerely the only luxury item I could find to lust after.

I think I added you a couple days ago when peering at seattlepolitics or somesuch. So probably 17 November 2004. Scratch it on a calendar before it's too late!

When I was wee I wanted a bowling alley in my basement, and a swimming pool on my roof. I don't remember if this was pre- or post- first interesting book, so there may have been no library tower planned at that time.

good ideas... I dreamed about swimming last night, I haven't done it in so long. However, perhaps as a result of growing up in northerly climates, I never ever wanted my own pool.

The bowling alley would be good for parties. Give the folks something to do.

Want to go out sometime?

Want to go out sometime?

Love to. (As long as you're aware that I'm often an unsocial silent sort of introvert, tending toward the romantically unavailable end of the spectrum at the moment if that's a go out go out, and various and sundry other insecure disclaimers.) Likely busy from now thru next Sunday, but open after that.

hah! Go out! Well, it depends on what spectrum you're measuring as to whether I'm available myself. Sexually (yes) or otherwise (no). I just meant meet, and not necessarily any time soon as I have a bunch of schoolwork and work-work to do. Still, I'm trying to meet new people and do more interesting things. (Dance performance? Theatre? Art?) Or just have a drink & talk.

Any of the above, in approximately reverse or maybe random order of preference. I think I'm mostly missing dance appreciation genes, tho every once in a while I feel a wow moment watching someone.
