*shivers* I've never been able to get over my hesitation to do anything to my eyes--including putting little pieces of glass or plastic in.
If you feel comfortable with the idea of lasik, then please consider it, but implants seem as though they would not be a good solution. What happens when you get older? Do they adjust for continued deterioration? (I'll look more thoroughly at sites later.)
I did have an acquaintance from school get the lasik, and it took quite well, but he needed a year of healing, and kept wandering about for the first couple of weeks extremely sensitive to light (and wore sunglasses) and when he took them off, they were bloodshot. The recovery isn't very comfortable, but it does work. *shrugs*
*nods* You would be sensible about it. I can't help being a bit squeamish, but I'll support whatever decision you make. If they allow it and you need it, I'd gladly hold your hand through the procedure and/or drive you home (when I have license). Of course, Mittel would probably be more likely for it, but I might as well offer.
