Why did early Mesoamerican skywatchers pick a date some 2300 years into the future and, in fact, how did they pinpoint an accurate winter solstice? With all these considerations one begins to suspect that, for some reason, the ancient New World astronomers were tracking precession.
(Note: I haven't actually reviewed any of the logic or facts.)

what i wants is mayan (and any other) calendars that i can put in user info or web page and have automagically display dates in all formats and/or countdown to 13.0.0.0.0. no time to look for or code tho.

Strange, I've been drawn to the Mayan calendar and its cultural mysteries over the last six months. I mean, more than usual. :)
