I notice they didn't discuss the possibility that some people who take vitamin and antioxidant supplements to reduce cancer risk are bothering because they know they have a family history of it. (Thus would be more likely to die from it anyway.)

I agree.

I still cannot see anything inherently damaging about taking vitamins and supplements, provided you have some knowledge of what you're doing in terms of dosages, et cetera. However there are people who think that taking vitamins and supplements will somehow "make up" for having a terrible diet otherwise, and that's certainly not the case.
