I have a LJ friend who is permanently disabled and in pain due to botched gastric bypass surgery. The surgeon was inexperienced and also drunk at the time of the surgery. Some of the other women who had the surgery at the same clinic with the same doctor died. Big lawsuit pending. It's scary stuff indeed.
That's a good reason to let him see. You could leave him a note: "Off to my surgery! BTW, good chance that I might die, so don't go shopping for smaller clothes for me yet."
