the beginning that resequencing
I suddenly am pretty sure I need a PhD or equivalent in computational linguistics.
Should probably check first to make sure such a thing exists, which surely it must. It does. There.
Probably an earned honorary degree, as I can't stomach other people telling me what to learn anymore.
The downside is I'll probably actually have to put the time in to learn another language, unless I manage to first make a perfect universal translator based on language-as-quantum-liquids.
The PhD program requires 66 credits of coursework (22 courses), proficiency in two foreign languages, two Qualifying Papers, an Oral Comprehensive Examination, and a dissertation (see degree requirements, PhD). Roughly half of the student'stotal PhD coursework, i.e. 10 courses, must be in computational linguistics (including computer science). PhD students must pass a Qualifying Review no later than their third semester, including submission of a conference-quality Qualifying Paper (QP1) in Computational Linguistics. A publishable Qualifying Paper (QP2) in Computational Linguistics is due in the final semester of coursework. In general, only applicants with a substantial background or working experience in Computer Science or Computational Linguistics are admitted to the PhD program. Prospective students who lack the necessary foundation for advanced study in computational linguistics should apply to the MS program instead.
Their website is profoundly broken. File Not Found for the site map???
Oh. I also suddenly thought it was likely a very deadly flu epidemic would start soon, but lucky for you I'm demonstrably non-psychic.

Meh. If it comes, so be it. I tend to get sick from the vaccinations, so I'll just work on boosting my own immune system's health and hope Ana and I survive. I find panic and paranoia are good ways to bring what you fear right to your (lung's) doorstep.
As per PhD: If you really wish to pursue it, I'm sure I won't be the only one supporting your decision, though I'm curious whether you would have time with your job to also complete a PhD, or if you'll need to adjust your work to manage. There's much to consider, as you very well know.
I can't stomach other people telling me what to learn anymore.
I know what you mean, but I need to at least get a B.A. to make me look semi-credible to people anymore. *sighs*

As long as you're sure you can juggle it, then go for it. I'm concerned about what sleep you may or may not get in the process. As it is, you've been having trouble being motivated and with energy (lacking); I just worry.

For real brick and building schools. They say can d interdisciplinary within school.. could write own coursework requirements? I imagine they might give you more validating study. coming from linguists and communication models than from Computer ones.. as in computationally you are qualified with the tech bit but the theory and rigorous research possibility... ?
Noodling.. at any rate.

The current CEO of my company is like one day younger than me or something; he started out working there at the tail end of high school, and I went to college for 10 years. Now he's a rich CEO, and I'm a poor bot. (He did finish up a degree or too later.)
Of course, he's probably not interested in computational linguistics and creating cyberbeings and Buddhism and other wiggly things to the degree that I am.
So my plan is just become an expert and publish papers and then have them fight each other to see who can give me an honorary degree first.
Now all I've got to do is a decade or so of work.
