LiveJournal purchased
Jan. 5th, 2005 09:13 pmWhat does this mean for the future business plans of LiveJournal?Actually, when my company was purchased, things very similar to that were said. Then all the money was sucked out of us. Later, they apologized, and spurted some money back into us.
We feel that there's a lot of synergy between our two companies and we both benefit from this relationship by bringing a lot of value-add to the table. By focusing on our core competencies we can continue to provide robust, turn-key, industry-leading solutions while also lowering Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) to our valued clients.

Nov. 12th, 2004 03:09 pmAre hospitals legally required to provide emergency medical treatment to people regardless of ability to pay? (Provide info if so, as an lj peep needs treatment and has no money and no insurance. Hospital is demanding payment of half of cost up-front.)
I know it is true in some places, but don't know if it is federal law. It appears to be the case that there's federal law that says a pharmacist isn't allowed to refuse to fill prescriptions if you can't pay a co-pay, but I'd guess that that just covers people that have insurance.

Me: Hi, I moved out of the area and need to close my account. How do I do this?
Them: You can do it by mail for a $20 feeWTF?. Otherwise you can just let it close itself by having a zero balance and no activity.
Me: Won't there be monthly fees appearing since I don't have direct deposit anymore?
Them: Let me transfer you to your original branch, maybe they have other ideas.
Pause: pause
Me: Hi, I moved out of the area and need to close my account. How do I do this?
Them: You'll need to come into the branch.
Me: I'm on the West Coast now. I can't do that.
Them: Then you'll need to give someone the power of attorney and have them come into the branch for you.
Me: No, that's absolutely insane. It's not going to happen. Can't I do it by mail or something?
Us: more of the same
Them: The bank is closed now. You can try calling tomorrow morning and see if my manager has some other ideas.

Jun. 24th, 2004 02:51 pmCompetition is good.
reminds me of aol - didn't they start off with "10 free hours!" or something equally stupid?
roster of evils:
aol : hour misers
hotmail : storage misers. pay us money for more than 2 MB! and to make sure you need to, we'll spam you daily reminding you, thus using up all your available space, and we'll make it impossible for you to filter our spam out!
telephone : everything misers, zero improvements for decades
isdn : haha die you unborn phlegm (see telephone)
cell phones : minutes misers
cable tv : hurray for deregulation bringing tv costs down to $100/month! hurray for national laws that prohibit local regulation of costs! maybe people will start reading more and i'll have better selection when looking for bookshelves.
epson printers : ink more expensive than gold-plated platinum, clogging just about any time you might want to print something, recommending doing 'cleaning cycles' which don't work but do waste lots more of the gold-plated platinum ink.
apc ups : for when you want annoying beeps and power failures when everyone else is not having them. can also cause amusing electrical oscillations so your neighbor's monitor will pulse at him.
now have vonage - unlimited long distance, $30/month, seems ok, especially when using analog phone instead of stupid digital phone that cuts out silences, things next to silences, pregnant pauses, gentle loving whispers, or any important things that are essential to communication not sounding like shit.
grumble gripe mrgle. i'm taking a shower.
