Hailp

So, if I legally live in Washington State, work for a company in Maryland, am staying some number of months in Pennsylvania, and am buying a car from a cow-orker in Virginia... which state does it need inspection and licensing for?

i have no idea.

the end.

maybe find out wherever it's cheapest to register it? but if you are planning to eventually take it back to seattle and drive it, you'll have to change the plates there eventually, right? i'm stumped.

probably give it away and/or sell it when done with it here. or park it conspicuouously at work and use it when i fly in, if it still runs then? maybe i can find a bat cave that doesn't leak too much.

My first guess is Pennsylvania. Most states with which I am familiar require registering your vehicle if you are residing in the state for more than a month. Some may give you 2 or 3 months. I dunno. Here's the Pennsylvania DMV (http://www.dmv.org/pa-pennsylvania/department-motor-vehicles.php)'s website. You can probably find your answer there, and if not, a phone number to call where some nice machine will route you through hell until finally you find a human to answer your question.

There's a denver-local builder of pickup tops called S-cargo; their emblem is a snail.

See, my guess would be Washington State, if you're able to remain a legal resident there, as you're the owner of the car...

pennsylvania, since you're gonna be resident there for several months.

Pennsylvania. You'll have to go through the whole rigamaroll again in Washington when you come back, providing you wish to keep it after said time.

PA, I think, since you're on the lease... or will be, soon? but you're also on the Seattle lease. hmm.

registration and insurance is cheap here, relatively speaking (I went through all this in March or so, can give you names/etc if needed)

also interesting where you will pay state tax... I was thinking about that yesterday and my head exploded.

I'm going to pay Washington state tax, since it doesn't have an income tax.

heh that's right :) cool!
