Sep. 2nd, 2004 01:38 amI did a search on "J. Random", since I for some reason sometimes refer to myself as J. Random __________, and found this: A Portrait of J. Random Hacker. Describes me pretty well, tho I never refer to myself as a hacker.
"Their code will be beautiful, even if their desks are buried in 3 feet of crap." hee
"Almost all hackers have terribly bad handwriting, and often fall into the habit of block-printing everything like junior draftsmen." la
stuck for the last 8 hours wondering which sort of beautiful to make a piece of code; thank you, j random depressobottery, for removing my decision-making ability.

Jul. 16th, 2004 03:54 pmI'd think it would be rather simple to set up cygwin + python + mysql + mysql interface for python. I might even expect the cygwin installer to do all the work for me.
I'd expect introductions to python cgi programming would have simple debug wrappers available so you could see more than "Internal Server Error", and would mention exception handling way up front so you could see output other than "", and would mention modifying apache so scripts run rather than being displayed as text.
I'd be incorrect, and would instead go take a shower. Writing "Hello, World" shall be replaced by writing cgi and exception handling wrappers when my annoyance dies down. In other news, Zope and Webware are invited to bite me. "Here's a perfect system that almost no host will allow; certainly not the one you just switched to!"
I wish having my own complete personal full-access server in a data center cost about as much as it should cost, rather than costing far more than i'd like.
